Basic physician training in Melbourne Health

The Royal Melbourne Hospital is a major tertiary referral hospital in Melbourne and a premier centre of clinical training. Supervision and support from opinion leaders are complemented by:

  • Unit based teaching; Melbourne Health hosts a wide range of specialty-based meetings. Details may be accessed from here, the most up-to-date list of meetings can also be downloaded below.
  • Short and long case tutorials and mock FRACP examinations in the months preceding the clinical exams. In 2010, there were exchanges of trainees for these activities between Melbourne Health and Western Health to increase the range of patients encountered and to simulate real examination conditions more closely;
  • The RACP lecture series, received by video conference facilities in Meeting Room 2, 8 South (opposite the Medical Workforce Unit in the Executive Suite); and
  • The Consortium tutorial program for the written FRACP examinations. For the 2010 examinations, this ran from November 2009 to February 2010. Nearly all tutorials are held at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and are video-conferenced to the Western Hospital and Ballarat Health Services
